Jay s Moving Company was founded by Jay Harper (1927-2008) in 1951. For 24 years Jay and his wife Virginia served hundreds of clients out of the kitchen of their home. The business flourished and in 1973 Jay’s moved to its own building in Fountain Square (Indianapolis, IN). Jay’s Moving Company has continued to serve the Indianapolis community with integrity and honest hard work. Jay retired in March of 2008 and 10 months later He departed this earth to be with his beloved Heavenly Father. All who knew him are proud to say I knew Jay Harper . His legacy lives on through his family and those that knew him.

Comment : Horrible. There are enough negative reviews here that I do not need to belabor the point - Jays Moving in 2018 is not what Jays Moving was a few years ago when I had a good experience. I hired Jays to load three PODS for an out of state move. I provide 5 dozen moving blankets, a dozen ratchet straps and a couple hundred feet of rope. They used less than half the blankets and only used one ratchet strap. Besides one item, NOTHING was tied down or secured in the PODS and we had many items damaged and scratched in the process. The movers were pleasant and worked diligently, but they were careless with our belongs and unprofessional in how they loaded the PODS.

Comment : The guys arrived on time, three of them, a team leader and two novices. They came with a truck to load when I had only arranged for unloading of my household items from a trailer. Initially, the leader was very disturbed that my furniture was not wrapped in blankets and explained that his team would never have packed this load this way. He called someone about the matter, and made me sign a waiver. I loaded the trailer. I am aware of the condition. It seemed as though they were covering their butts prematurely and insulting me the client at the same time. They went on to unload everything in a matter of about 3 hours. Pros: The leader was very smart. He used the truck they brought to transport really heavy equipment out to our barn. He was also a very good driver of that truck around the property. They were also very considerate trying to keep our carpets and floors clean. The weather had made everything outside very wet and muddy the days before. And all together nice guys. Cons: They dropped some of my furniture on the ground while bringing it around the side of the house to use the large sliding door. Nothing was severely damaged but there was mud on my leather couch. I chalk this up to some inexperienced guys on the team. And, of course, they would have preferred to have everything wrapped in blankets. The Big Con: My bill was much more than expected. I was told 145 for 3 men per hour. Plus a trip charge of 50. This would have been about 500 for 3 hours. Then I learn, in addition to the trip charge I had to pay them extra hours for the drive out and the drive back I think it should be one or the other. I paid 666 dollars that day, much more than I planned on. And if I had used a credit card instead of writing a check, it would have been more yet. They were not that impressive a crew, but mostly the cost really bugs me. I think I should have been quoted all the costs I incurred that day in one of the two calls I made to the office in advance to book the movers. If you book them, be aware of this billing practice and maybe get the quote in writing.
